I’m thinking I’m going to start propagating some of the quotes I find…
In Better, Atul Gawande cites three core requirements for success in medicine: diligence, “to do right” and “ingenuity – thinking anew”. I liked what he said about ingenuity:
Ingenuity is often misunderstood. It is not a matter of superior intelligence but of character. It demands more than anything a willingness to recognize failure, to not paper over the cracks, and to change.
Better is a book of essays about medicine & related stuff. Its Afterword is subtitled “Suggestions for Becoming a Positive Deviant” :-)
I’m yet to read his Checklist Manifesto, but that looks interesting too.
