This is a "gateway page", here purely to make it easy to download a PDF file of my essay on the above subject.
If you don't need to print out the document, you're better off reading the essay in its HTML version, which is better suited for reading on screen.
PDF = Portable Document Format. They are a bit rubbish for reading on the screen but good for printing out. You may well find that your computer already has Acrobat Reader or a similar program for reading them.
Because opening a PDF reader inside a browser window sometimes makes the browser crash, it's often best to download the file first, stick it in some directory you'll be able to find again, and then open it by double-clicking on the file name. How you download a file without opening it varies from browser to browser. E.g. in Mozilla it's right-click on the link above and choose "Save Link Target As...".
